oldmedia ppl no laptop/mobile, newmedia not listening but twittering random shit
Nick Hodge via Twitter commenting on the conference attendee behavior differences at PubCamp - The Web 2.0 Media Day in Sydney today.
I’m going to be kind of un web 2.0 but I was just thinking earlier today that bringing a laptop to conferences is a bit useless and distracting. Like really what’s the fucking point of twittering during someone’s presentation? Is there going to be any greater insights that will be gained by being connected to your mates live on the www that you won’t get through asking questions during / at then end, discussing the topics afterwards, just writing notes or genuinely listening to the presentation attentively then writing notes or blog posts afterwards? Other than getting to make witty snarky remarks that only your mates on Twitter, Friendfeed and Rounduselessliveconvo.com will read anyway I don’t see the point. If had a sexy Mac Book Air and rad touch typing skillz I’d totally show them off but I just don’t get the whole now, now NOW!ness of everything 2.0. If it’s not going to make me smarter, wealthier or get me laid then why do it?
