How much publicity do you think I would get if I ran on a platform of “true” representative democracy, ie if I was elected President, I would work with top notch computer security dudes to set up a website where everyone could vote each time I had to make a decision.
It would have to have *major* voter fraud detection, and there are still some people who don’t have Internet access, although you would think they would go to a library if they could boss the President around.
“Where do I stand on the issues? Wherever you want me to.”
There is a political party here in Australia that ran in our last federal election (November 2007) on this type of platform. Is called Senator On-Line and describes itself as Australia’s only Internet based democratic political party. They didn’t do very well with only 0.05% of the vote. I promoted it both on this blog and on a Friday night radio show I had a segment on. So don’t know what went wrong with it not getting elected. Either participatory democracy isn’t what people want or I just don’t reach as many people as I think I do.
