I’m on another self imposed continuous partial attention exile. The last time I gave up Twitter I lasted from February 14 to March 25 and got a heap of stuff done. Right now I need to stop hiding from productivity so Twitter is out at least until the end of May. After that I might even try and make it a permanent thing on weekdays. Twitter for me is just a nice tool for socialising but I haven’t built anything meaningful relationship wise or increased my knowledge base from all the time I’ve spent there. Definitely a non-essential service I can do without which when I do always feels like I have a huge amount of extra time when I don’t check in each hour just to see what is happening.

“Unintended side-effect of the Internet: By witnessing thousands of childish arguments about trivial matters, I feel I have become better equipped to avoid those types of arguments. Sometimes I fall into the trap, but usually, as soon as one starts, I see it as a waste of time.”

Fanatical usage and almost nonexistent attrition

At the moment I’m doing some research and data gathering on media snacking and how tumblelogs fit in with that. While I know there is nothing worse than tumbling about tumblr I had to mention that I just browsed the list of 294 tumblrs I’m following (yeah, my “break up” with y’all didn’t last long). Of all those people, only 6 tumblr users had not posted in the last week and just 1 person’s blog was now defunct. What kind of bizarro blog universe is this?

Help! Can anyone help me follow these instructions to set up my custom domain name? I have bought my domain, but can’t point the A record to 72.32.231.8. Any tips welcome!
You’ll need to set up a free DNS hosting account at Zone Edit and go through the steps there of adding your new domain to their system. They will then give you two name servers (will look something like ns12.zoneedit.com) that you will need to enter at Melb IT in the primary and secondary fields of the hostname column and do the same with their corresponding ip addresses in the ip address column. Then back at Zone Edit you will be able to set the A record to the Tumblr supplied IP Address.
If you have any troubles just email or twitter me.
Also, next time: don’t buy domain names from Melbourne IT. Too expensive, lack of basic services, poor domain management interface, terrible support. TPP Internet are my fave .au domain registrar. Have used them for 6 years now and can not fault them on any level.

On man boobs

Why doesn’t society allow men to flaunt their testosterone fueled bosoms in whatever way they want for whatever reason they feel like without being ridiculed?

Name That Theme Song Game One or two players, try and name the theme song. (hey, it’s Friday!)

Finally something wonderful on the internet. My only world class skill is identifying tv theme songs. Without being totally immodest I’d have to be in the top 5 people at doing it in the whole world. A few years ago I was at a university bar where the Friday afternoon musician/comedian was doing a game in which he’d start playing the song and you’d have to name the show it came from. Every correct answer you’d get a free drink. I got all 15 songs right. I woke up 12 hours later in some one’s front garden 10 kilometers away from my home in the pouring rain. Good times.

I am the decider

Have just made a decision that is right for me but know that people will be disappointed with it. I wish I could just say fuck ‘em but it has been them who had confidence in me when I had none in myself. Even though this is the best option I have that will allow me to go onto bigger and better things, I was physically sick just before when I decided to do it. Scary stuff. But good. I hope.
